Project objectives

To support the Calamian Tagbanwa community-led conservation of traditional food sources for improved food security and assertion of rights.

Specifically, the project aims to:

  • Document traditional food sources in the ancestral domain, along with Indigenous Knowledge, Practices and Systems (IKSP) on food production management and conservation;
  • Promote traditional food sources and their conservation;
  • Increase the capacities of women and youth as Manig-amlig (conservation leaders)

Project components/ target outputs

  • Documentation and community research on food sources and IKSP;
  • Community and women-led capacity building and skills sharing;
  • Production and conservation activities: backyard gardening, community centre seed banking;
  • Promotion and learning exchanges: Tagbanwa food festival, community learning sessions and visits to conservation sites; and
  • Strengthening women’s participation in indigenous governance.
