Project objectives
To support the Calamian Tagbanwa community-led conservation of traditional food sources for improved food security and assertion of rights.
Specifically, the project aims to:
- Document traditional food sources in the ancestral domain, along with Indigenous Knowledge, Practices and Systems (IKSP) on food production management and conservation;
- Promote traditional food sources and their conservation;
- Increase the capacities of women and youth as Manig-amlig (conservation leaders)
Project components/ target outputs
- Documentation and community research on food sources and IKSP;
- Community and women-led capacity building and skills sharing;
- Production and conservation activities: backyard gardening, community centre seed banking;
- Promotion and learning exchanges: Tagbanwa food festival, community learning sessions and visits to conservation sites; and
- Strengthening women’s participation in indigenous governance.
