More than 100 cyclists are visible at the gates of the National Monument (Monas), opposite the Istana Merdeka. Beside cyclists from Bike to Work (B2W), the ambassadors from Scandinavian countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland were present. Also there were cyclists from the Bogor and Bekasi government from the departments of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
Cycling with the headline # Bike2Party is part of the "Nordic Midsummer Party" in Jakarta. Scandinavian countries on Thursday (06/04/2015) celebrated "Midsummer Day" or mid-summer party. This party is regularly held once a year as a celebration of mid-summer's day, when the days are the longest in Scandinavia.
Celebrating midsummer with cycling is intended as a commitment to environmentally friendly transportation campaigns undertaken by these countries in Indonesia. Nordic countries have long supported cycling campaigns conducted by Bike2Work Indonesia.
Minister of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Siti Nurbaya Bakar who participated in the celebration, expressed that a variety of environmentally friendly technologies generated by the Scandinavian countries have helped a lot and had a positive influence on Indonesia.
"Cooperation with the Nordic countries is quite useful and helped Indonesia to develop environmentally friendly technologies. Plus, environmental issues have been increasingly penetrating the surface in every country, "said Minister Siti.
Danish Ambassador to Indonesia, Casper Klynge pleased to be contributing to the campaign for environmentally friendly lifestyle. He said that Denmark has a record of savings by replacing non-evironment friendly transportation with bicycles.
"We are very pleased to be working with this remarkable country with many eco-friendly technologies being developed," he said.
