Posting Date
The success story of Dayak women weaver is illustrated in "Story of the Guardian Angel of Dayak Tradition: Success Story of Women Dayak Villager of Sintang District in Learning the Art of Weaving Ikat".

Speaking of Dayak Ikat is not just talking about preserving the Dayak tradition, but it also talks about development of local economy in accordance with local knowledge, intellectual property of Dayak, and precious Borneo forest on natural dyes. From a piece of Dayak Ikat, Dayak women weavers gain many invaluable benefits - nurturing friendship, learning new knowledge, learning about sorrow and happiness, learning about failure and success, gaining better self confidence, gaining recognition of their social status, and securing their livelihood. Dayak weavers also learn that sharing is beautiful and working together is a success, and that mutual respect and trust each other crafts a peaceful life. Dayak Ikat weaving is a true "Long Journey" of social development. A lesson that should benefit the future generation.

The book could not be completed without PRFC-Indonesia's hard work, smart work and cooperation with government, private agencies and Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). Aboe of all, courage, confidence and trust of Dayak women weavers to PRFC - Indonesian are key to the success in documenting this "Long Journey" under Revitalization and Restoration of Dayak Weaving Program. The program is a collaborative between Samdhana and PRFC-Indonesia to revive the invaluable of tenun ikat weaving, through improvement of weaver's artistic skill, inhencement of weaver's managerial skills, and education of common people about denotation of symbols portrayed on tenun ikat to ensure sustainability of tenun ikat weaving. This “Success Stories of Dayak Women” is also a success of PRCF - Indonesia in empowering Dayak women based on the society's dan weaver's values. The empowerment is truly from the Long Journey itself, where Dayak women weavers reveal their succes story. This “Long Journey” could be taken as a resource, reference and guide for any empowerment program or similar activity.

Revitalization and Restoration of Dayak Ikat Weaving Program was mainly challenged by the ability of Dayak women weavers whose writing skills were poor. PRFC - Indonesian had to design a writing skills training and invited 24 participants, from four villages - Ensaid Long (4 persons), Baning Long (5 persons), Arranty Long (5 persons) and Umin Jaya (10 people). The training was combined with proactive action by PRFC - Indonesian collecting information for Dayak women weavers who can not write through interviews and dialogues.
