PARARA Festival Jakarta: Hundreds of Quality Local Community Products from all over Indonesia, and much more

The Nusantara Harvest Festival 2015 also known as PARARA in Banteng square (Lapangan Banteng) will have hundreds of locally produced and good quality products, like healthy food, textiles weaves and much more. Textiles weaves from Kalimantan and Nusa Tenggara Timur, diverse local food from Sumatra and Java are just a few examples. The products, from over a hundred local communities, are brought to the festival in Jakarta, which is held on the weekend of 6 to 7 June 2015.

The event will be opened with a traditional Indonesian ceremony called the “Ruwatan Bumi”. It will be followed by several cultural events such as dances from Biak-Papua, the Kajang tribe from Sulawesi Selatan and the Dayak tribe from Kalimantan. On Sunday morning there will be a special run , its runners will wear very uniquely made costumes. Jazz and puppets ‘Rokenrol' will live up the floor with their music and their message of saving the environment. Last but not least a unique fashion show will form the closing ceremony on Sunday. The models will show a very modern take on traditional clothing.

Furthermore one may find a number of crafts workshops such as: making soap from lemongrass, making rag dolls and paper baskets, a photography workshop and even a workshop on building drones and robotics. Tales of adventures in the land of mirrors with Juki and Friends will entertain the young ones in the children's play area.

PARARA is more than just a festival, it is expected to be the entrance to the existence of a community entrepreneurship available to a wider public. To achieve such a just and sustainable economy many efforts were made to improve the community and providing them with the tools for a fair and sustainable economy while also preserving nature and life around.

Various talks during the festival will shed some light on how this was achieved. The themes will be including Forest Not Just Wood, Design To The Public: Fair and Sustainable Design, Crafts and Economic Empowerment of Women, Community Products and Intellectual Property.

"This event is not just a product that rolled out of communities, but rather it derives from a new understanding of the public on the real Indonesia. How do people in a region increase their local economy and at the same time protect the environment? The public is more aware of what is just and sustainable. The people of urban areas, are not only be lovers of good quality local products but are also helping to realize a fair and sustainable economy with open markets., "said Jusupta Tarigan, NTFP- EP Indonesia, Head of the secretariat PARARA, representing the consortium.

This festival was initiated by 22 Civil Society institutions and involves two hundred students that creating attractive designs for community products.
